Julie studied modern history at Edinburgh University graduating with an upper second class honours degree. Following which she spent two years working in Japan before returning to the UK to study law at the University of Northumbria and qualified as a Solicitor in 1999. Julie’s interest in employment law began as a Trainee Solicitor and she has specialised in this area exclusively since qualification, deriving particular satisfaction from developing long lasting relationships with clients who provide her with repeat instructions.
Julie spent a number of years working in Newcastle before joining the firm’s employment team in Teesside in 2002. She has a breadth of experience in both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters. Julie has gained expertise in settling claims via alternative dispute resolution methods and is an experienced mediator in employment disputes.
Julie’s work involves advising and representing both employers and employees in tribunal proceedings throughout the UK many of which have involved multiday hearings. She is a popular presenter at our training sessions, seminars and workshops and enjoys working with companies to develop and deliver bespoke training to suit client specific needs.
Julie has been a member of the Employment Lawyers Association since 1999 and in September 2007 she was appointed as a Non Executive Director to the Board of Tees Valley Dance Company to whom she provided pro bono employment law advice for a number of years.
Julie holds the solicitors seat for the BNI Premier chapter Eaglescliffe.
Outside of work Julie enjoys cycling, running, cookery and family life.
