Jacksons Shield for Employment Law

Jacksons ShieldEmployment Law is a constantly changing area.  In 2017, a number of significant developments were occurred, which is why we created Jacksons Shield.

Recent decisions on employment status suggests that many self-employed contractors should have worker status and many workers will be entitled to full employment rights.  Meanwhile, the modern workplace continues to evolve as employers and staff embrace new attitudes as to how, when and where we work.

Discrimination remains a fertile branch of law.  One in which employers take a huge risk if they do not keep up to date with gender pay inequality and mental health in the workplace.

Finally, unresolved employment disputes are now more likely to develop into tribunal claims in the wake of the momentous decision by the Supreme Court on 26 July 2017 that the Employment Tribunal fees regime was unlawful, which led to the Government abolishing tribunal fees.

In light of these developments, and their potentially serious consequences, it is important to have access to the right level of business support and protection.


Jacksons Shield is a bespoke service which provides comprehensive employment law support for an annual subscription fee.


There are a number of ways for clients to benefit from Jacksons Shield depending on their size, circumstances and the level of support they require. The key elements of Jacksons Shield, common to all packages, are:

  • the Helpline – access to Employment Law and HR advice from qualified solicitors, including an out of hours service;
  • the Documents Review – an audit of your employment contracts, staff handbook, policies and procedures to ensure that you have in place the correct documents for your business;
  • the Insurance Option – an optional policy to cover the cost of litigation including settlements, awards and even enforcing restrictive covenants. The policy is unique in comparison with other similar products in the market.  If you follow our advice you will not be tripped up by reporting conditions.  This will allow you to retain the benefit of the cover and make pragmatic decisions.

The cost of our packages will largely depend on the number of workers in the business. Please note there may also be a premium  for businesses with a history of claims in the last three years.
