While you might enjoy the delicious kind with a nice cup of tea, being crumbly when it comes to the Cookie Policy on your website could have some much less appetising consequences, as Partner, Toby Joel, explained to Tees Business Magazine.
We’ve all seen the little pop-up messages that appear whenever we visit a website, asking whether we consent to the firm’s cookie policy and enabling users to switch off cookies, or accept only essential cookies.
But what is a ‘cookie’ in this context and why does your business need to have a cookies policy to comply with data protection legislation? Read full article here.
It costs about £150 to get cookie software put on your website – but in comparison, the ICO can levy quite indigestible fines, including up to £17,500,000 or 4% of total worldwide annual turnover, whichever is the higher, for failing to comply with the UK GDPR and DPA 2018.
They can also fine businesses up to £500,000 for failing to comply with Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulation (PECR).
If you do find yourself the subject of substantial claims relating to your cookie policy, speak to your website or IT provider to find out if it is possible a data breach has taken place – and then get in touch with a lawyer, like Jacksons, if this is the case. We’d be happy to discuss matters with you so, please get in touch.
