Jacksons Law Firm is celebrating a trio of promotions from Solicitor to Associate Solicitor for three promising and ambitious young lawyers – including two from the “busy” residential conveyancing team on Teesside.
The Northern Law Awards’ Law Firm of the Year has recognised the hard work and dedication of Rachael Arbon, Daniel Tumilty and Ellie Honeyman, by promoting them to Associates, in recognition of the quality of their client work and the fact they act as ambassadors for the firm.
All three now have their sights set on one day becoming partners, as Rachael, who joined the firm in April 2022 as assistant head of the residential conveyancing department, explains.
“I’m really excited about getting embedded into the Jacksons family and the promotion to Associate takes me a little bit further in my career as a lawyer,” she said.
“I’m happy that things I have done over the last couple of years have been recognised.
“Maybe, over the next couple of years I can work my way up to a more senior Associate level and my longer-term aim is to become a partner and have more of a say in the day to day running of the firm and managing individuals.”
As a manager, Rachael says she would be dedicated to “making sure everyone remains happy at work” – something that she says Jacksons is already very good at.
“I’m part of the mental health awareness team that we have at Jacksons and we meet every couple of months to come up with ideas on how to promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the firm,” she says.
“Jacksons organised mental health training for colleagues, which gave us the skills to help people to recognise when they or others need support and understand where they can get it from, should they need it.”
Graduating from Solicitor to Associate Solicitor involves demonstrating that you have the right level of experience and knowledge in your area of law and showing that you are willing to identify business development opportunities right across the firm.
One of the ways this can be achieved is through networking in the local area, as well as referring clients to other departments that meet their legal needs.
Rachael has shown her mettle in a busy department and the ability to adapt to that while maintaining a good level of service “which clients deserve”.
“It was thought that, after Covid, house sales would slow down but we are not seeing that here as it’s a very busy department,” she says.
Daniel Tumilty, a team leader in residential conveyancing has a long history with Jacksons, having started his career in a summer role carrying out archiving with the firm, before going to University.
He also worked as a paralegal at the firm before completing his training elsewhere and returning once qualified.
“I like working at Jacksons because they genuinely care about the people who work for them and make sure you’re not overstretched in terms of your workload,” he said.
“Becoming an Associate has been in the works for a while and it’s something that I’ve been aiming towards, regularly speaking to my supervisor about what I needed to do over the last year and a half to get everything in a row.
“My overall plan is to become a partner further down the line.”
Daniel adds he is “very happy” about the promotion – and found out about it while on holiday with his family, including three children, in Florida.
“It was a cause for celebration when I got the call at 11am!” he said.
“Things are certainly going in the right direction here at Jacksons in terms of what I want for my career.”
Ellie Honeyman, who works in the litigation and insolvency team at the firm’s Preston Farm Industrial Estate office was also promoted to Associate Solicitor.
Ellie has been with the firm just over two years and previously worked with Richard Flounders, the litigation team partner.
“I’ve always known that Jacksons is a really good firm and I knew that this was the team I wanted to go into,” she said.
“Becoming an Associate wasn’t expected or in my mind with me only starting at Jacksons relatively recently – I didn’t expect to get to that stage as quickly as I did, although it was something I wanted to work towards.
“I was really shocked and surprised, but I’m buzzing as it recognises the hard work I’ve put in since I joined.”
Ellie enjoys networking and has brought a lot of new work into the firm as a result.
“I would like to develop further with a view to having my own team within a team, that will hopefully give me a little bit more direction as I work towards partnership,” she said.
Tony Wentworth, managing partner at Jacksons Law Firm, said: “It is so pleasing to have so many ambitious young people working with us.
“Achieving a promotion from Solicitor to Associate Solicitor is not an easy feat and all three have demonstrated a strong work ethic and a dedication to promoting Jacksons as an award-winning law firm in the North East.
“We look forward to seeing Rachael, Daniel and Ellie continue to develop in their careers with us and feel sure they all have a bright future ahead of them.”
