Jacksons Law Firm continues to support its staff with career progression as litigator, Michael Sproates is promoted to Associate Solicitor.
Michael joined Jacksons in 2012 on a work placement from university and following completion of his degree, and Legal Practice Course, the firm offered him a trainee solicitor position. He subsequently qualified as a solicitor and joined the firm’s dispute resolution and debt recovery department.
An integral part of the litigation team, Michael has his own case load advising clients, based in Teesside and surrounding areas as well as those from around the UK, on litigation and debt recovery matters.
Michael said, “I’m absolutely delighted to progress within such a well-respected and forward-thinking firm. Jacksons initially gave me an opportunity to gain hands on experience of working in a law firm whilst I was still at University. I have been fortunate enough to work alongside a great team, helping me develop my skills and build up contacts within the North East. I’m really looking forward to help growing the firm in the years to come.”
Toby Joel, Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution and Debt Recovery said, “Michael is an asset to the team and also to the firm, and works hard at getting great results for our clients. He is always keen to get involved in firm wide initiatives including business development, charity, and social events. I have watched his confidence develop over the last nine years as he deals with complex litigation matters. I have no doubt he will continue to thrive as his career progresses with Jacksons.”
Michael is a member of Jacksons’ young professional committee which launched a monthly networking event in October 2020. The NEtwork, was set up for young professionals in the North East of England to help them grow their own business contacts and develop skills to enhance their career. Michael is committed to supporting Jacksons’ staff initiatives and is a member of the firm’s social committee. He assists the marketing team to organise and promote Jacksons’ annual charity golf event at Teesside Golf Club through his golfing network.
Toby and his team continue to deal with high levels of complex commercial disputes during what has been a very busy and challenging year. However, the hard work has paid off and the department ended the financial year, in March, in a really strong position. Areas of expertise includes property, agriculture, chancery, contract, professional negligence, construction and debt recovery.
