Christmas contact with children.

Posted on 19th December, 2017

The annual dispute over Christmas contact with children.

When parents who have children together separate this can become a major issue all year round however tensions are usually heightened over the Christmas period.

Whilst Christmas is regarded as a happy family orientated time, many couples who are no longer in a relationship dread the festive period if it means their children are splitting time between the parents. It is hoped that families can put aside their differences for the sake of the children so that a relationship can develop between the child and each parent.

Generally the Courts view contact as essential between both parents and usually welcome the parties agreeing a fair and reasonable agreement to allow quality time for all concerned however this cannot always be achieved. The Courts become extremely busy in the lead up to Christmas and parents are urged to reach an agreement as constructively as possible.

Clearly the Courts are able to make decisions in relation to contact however it is seen by many that in the interests of the children, those that know them the best such as their parents surely would be better making those decisions themselves.
